Everyday on my way to work, I drive through three school zones…I really must find a better route…One of these school zones is for a middle school. And everyday I watch students walking to school. They are 12 or 13, completely self-conscious and totally oblivious to the cars that could quite quickly end their walk to school. They all wear ID badges around their necks, and only about one in 10 is carrying anything. How is that? Why do these children not have backpacks, or binders or books? I am puzzled by this everyday. They cannot ALL be delinquents who cut class and don’t do homework, could they?? I certainly hope not. If anyone can shed some light on this, I would be indebted to you everyday as I drive 20 miles an hour.

Ironically, each morning I watch elementary schoolers walk past my house on the way to school with those gigantapacks on wheels. They take more to school than I do on vacation.
Guess they ride ’em hard until the 7th grade, then they all burn out? 🙂
