Chicago: Fully Loaded

July 31, 2007 · 1 Comment

Great news may be on the horizon!! But there is still plenty of wood to be knocked on…

Trip to Chicago was AWESOME! I have a few pictures, but I need to do some editing before I put them up.

Things I did in Chicago:

  • Road the El in to work with my friend Amanda, and got to see her office and help her a little while I was there.
  • Had lunch at Pizzeria Due (pronounced Due-ay) (the most awesomely awesome Deep Dish pizza I’ve ever had).
  • Had dinner at Alinea which was the most interesting (and amazingly delicious!) dinner I have ever had.
  • Went Shopping on Michigan Avenue (and finally got to buy some Lush products!!)
  • Shopped at Amitage and Halstead in the awesome boutiques there (including Lill, where I MAY have created a purse for myself and then purchased said purse, which will be delivered in a few weeks…It will look pretty much like this:

  • Walked around downtown, went to Millennium Park, then to the lake to look at the sailboats.
  • Went to Taste of Lincoln which is a street festival in Lincoln Park (and rather a boozy event!).
  • Got a tour of the neighborhoods surrounding Lincoln Park (where Amanda lives).
  • Had a Chicago dog, fully loaded.
  • Walked to the lake (5 miles round trip!!) and laid out on the beach.
  • And finally, went to a tiny local Italian place that was absolutely delicious!

All of that was accomplished between Friday morning and Sunday night…So as you might guess, I was a bit tired when I got home last night! :) Tired, but very content!

New Hair!

I got a new haircut! THis is my attempt to look slightly more my age (almost 28). I am tired of hearing people come into my office saying they thought I was 19 or 20. Time to step it up a notch!

What do you think? Here’s the backside:

I’m headed to Chicago tomorrow night! Going to visit a friend for a long weekend…Any suggestions on good things to do or see?

Should be a nice trip.  She and I do vacay well together. We are both planners! :)

So far on our list of things to do:

  • Dinner at Alinea (it will cost as much as my plane ticket!!)
  • Shopping on Michigan Ave.
  • Volleyball on the beach
  • Possibly a “Brunch Cruise”
  • Classic Chicago street dog (to compare to NYC street dogs!!)
  • Drinks at the Hancock Signature Club (after shopping of course!)

All ideas will be considered! :)

My HP is Finally Here!

July 23, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Harry Potter that is! I won’t ever buy a Hewlett Packard again!

So anyway, I had reserved a copy last week of HP at my local BN. I went to the BN Saturday, fully expecting lines, or crowds or SOMETHING. All I found though, was normal Saturday book traffic. That was slightly deflating. It didn’t escape my notice, however, that every single person in line to check out had a copy of HP. I also noticed they had more copies behind the counter on reserve than they did on the tables at the front of the store. I guess everyone did what I did. Or else, you’re waiting out the first rush. I am rather excited to have a First Edition of this last book, so I wasn’t going to wait around.

If you’ve never read a Harry Potter book, really you should. I don’t care if you are a big burly man, or a fantasy hating woman, you will like them. They are a wonderful departure, and J.K. Rowlings has created such a complete and detailed world that you truly feel like it could be real.

Get thee to a bookstore, and pick up a copy!

To Lead or Not to Lead

July 20, 2007 · 4 Comments

Like the new masthead?

Wanna know where that phrase came from? “Best described as commandant.”

So a week or so ago, I took a Myers-Briggs Personality test. I hadn’t taken one since high school. I bet you haven’t either. If you would like to, here’s a link to go take it. It takes about 10 minutes.

Soo…now for those of you who know me off of this blog, this should come as no surprise…I fell into the ENTJ category. ENTJ is a rather tough personality…We are leaders, and we see things in a very analytical way. Don’t try to tell me your feelings about something, give me the facts as to why you want it to be so. THAT I will understand.  Argue with me. If you stick up to me, I will respect you. I don’t see it as a fight, I see it as two people learning something from each other. (But use facts. Don’t get mean. I still get sensitive when people get mean.) If you can hold your own with me in a debate, we will be fast friends. Oh and did I mention the leading?? Apparently, I can’t NOT lead. I don’t know how. I am drawn to it, and I will take over given the opportunity. Enter, the field marshal. The commandant.

It’s not really what I would prefer my personality to be, when put in that context, but apparently, it is a great place to be if you want to be successful. Many CEOs and other high powered leaders are ENTJ.

I am trying to use that information in the positive, and let it guide me in my search for a job. I need a position where I can lead. Middle Management, here I come…

Thanks For The Memories

July 16, 2007 · Leave a Comment

My friend Tricia (of twins fame) and I met in first grade. We were fast friends, and many, if not all, of my memories from first grade involve her in some form or fashion. One of the most prominent was the birth of somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 kittens. Tricia had two cats, Nicki and Julie, who both became pregnant at the same time. So close in fact, that I believe their kittens were born less than a week apart!

Tricia’s family had a half finished basement, where we kids played and had sleepovers (and tried to do Light as a Feather to no avail…definitely because I didn’t believe hard enough!), and where the cats and their kittens lived in two cardboard boxes with a notch cut out big enough for the mamas to get out, but that kept the kittens in. We would sit with those kittens for ages. Petting them, holding them up in the air, listening to their tiny mews. Watching them stumble around, blindly learning to walk. I can still hear the two of us giggling, and then telling Tricia’s little brother, Justin, to leave us alone.

It is one of my favorite childhood memories, and yesterday, when I opened my e-mail, what did I find? An e-mail from Tricia’s dad of the two of us and a kitten. How precious is this? (By the way, Tricia STILL uses that EXACT expression!! Also note, my toothless grin! I believe I was missing BOTH middle bottom teeth at the same time too.)

Ready for a Fight

July 12, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Sorry I have been MIA and my masthead hasn’t changed! I’m a little behind on life right now…I’m looking for a new job. That’s pretty much all it takes to send your normal projects packing, isn’t it??

I had my first interview yesterday (well, second, but I’m not counting the first…) and it was extremely well. I’m not going to say more, because I am a very good jinxer.

In other news, let’s see…ummm…yeah, that’s sucking up my life pretty well.

Although, I did manage to meet my friends at a bar last night–because my options were sit exhausted on a couch slowly turning to mold from all of the vegetating I would be doing, or sit on a barstool, beer in hand, turning to mold. The barstool sounded comfier…It was also Amateur Fight Night, and according to a flyer one of my friends saw, there was supposed to be midget boxing.

No such luck. I think my guy friends were devastated. What is it with guys and their fascination with little people?
