The FAP is Coming! The FAP is Coming!! Run!!!
August 29, 2006 · 1 Comment
The Fortieth Anniversary Party, or FAP, as I will now call it, is moving dangerously close…I am starting to stress. I am starting to worry about space as well. My livingroom is big. In fact, the combined livingroom/dining room space is probably a good 700 or 800 square feet. Which is larger than most of my other options for where to hold the party (which really just includes my Aunt and Uncle’s house, since, I can’t afford to hold it somewhere I have to pay for). I know I can fit 50 or 60 people in my house. I have done it. It really wasn’t bad. The problem is, I need to fit 50 or 60 people plus tables for all those people into my house. GROAN. That’s 6 tables. Six LARGE tables. That is still quite feasible, but where do the people stand??? Do you think people will just wind up sitting at the tables to mingle? And is that a bad thing?? Should I set everything up except for two tables, and then right before we eat, set up the last two, to leave some mingling room??
Oh and what about place settings? I think I have come to the conclusion that it may actually be cheaper to buy plates and glasses than rent them. I am pretty sure I can buy glasses and plates for $1 each, which would be $100 or so in place settings. And then silverware. Not sure there. But this is where closeout stores and Ikea come in. This weekend I am going to start scouring town for place settings. There is a chance however, that my friend Jenny’s mom might have some of this stuff, as she used to throw lots of large parties. Cross your fingers for that! Even just say, silverware, or 20 glasses would be a huge help.
So then there’s the food. For FIFTY. That’s a lot of food. I have decided lasagna (that I can cook at least a week in advance and freeze) is a good start. And I make a killer lasagna. Then I can cater salad and maybe another pasta dish. Maybe some chicken. That way, the most expensive part, the entree will be cheaper, because I made it. And the filler stuff won’t cost me an arm and a leg.
And then there’s getting a hold of a projector so I can do the obligatory slide show. Cause I gotta show the adorable pictures I have been archiving…
Oh and then there’s the invitations. And here is where I need your help. Which picture should I put on the invitations? It will be in black and white, so keep that in mind.
Here is the first picture.
The second.
The third.
I really need help deciding, so lemme know your thoughts. I know they are all a touch blurry, but it’s the best I’ve got from way back when…my parents never had professional pictures taken. But remember, the picture will be printed to be about 2″x3″ so it will be really small. You can view the pictures in the “small” setting to make it easier to judge the printed outcome. Some of the blur will go away.
Thanks for listening to my freak out!
Oh, and P.S. The picture of my parents at their wedding is completely photoshopped (and not quite done…don’t look TOO closely!!) They don’t have a single picture of just the two of them from the wedding. It was a rather rushed, leave-from-bootcamp-is-only-so-long, ceremony.

Blogger in Beta
August 25, 2006 · Leave a Comment
I just switched to the new Blogger which is in Beta at the moment. There is one hitch to using the Beta version. If you have a Blogger account, and try to leave a comment with your account name, it won’t let you yet. You may need to use the Anonymous or Other settings instead. I hope that doesn’t inconvenience anyone, but I am such a sucker for Beta versions…I can’t help but try them out!
(What I should really do is get my ass off of blogger and get my own domain name…but what can I say? Free is a tempting word…But you know what? My birthday is coming up in a few weeks…hint, hint!

Ever have one of those days where you wished your blog were 100% anonymous, so that you could talk about things that you don’t want your friends to know you think are idiotic or otherwise elementally flawed? Em, yeah, my 80% anonymous blog is causing a 20% problem today.

I Am Like, SO Totally Naming My Firstborn Son After Him!
August 21, 2006 · Leave a Comment
It has been years since I last wanted to spackle hundreds of photos and magazine tearouts of a Hollywood Hottie to the walls of my room, but I might make an exception for this man. I am SO in love with him. His name, his eyes, his smile, his voice…mmmmm…And to add lovely bonuses to his gorgeousness, his show, Prison Break, has its season premiere tonight. I’m so glad I don’t have to wait until mid-september! It’s like Wentworth gave me an early birthday present! I get to look at him every week now! Wonder how they are going to work that UNBELIEVABLY sexy tattoo into the show now that they are broken out of jail! Cause I gotta see that body!!
Let me reiterate…MMMMMM….

Oh and MMMM, MMMM…
Oh and an for good measure, MMMM, mmmm, MMMM….

From Fate’s Lips
August 18, 2006 · Leave a Comment
God’s plan. Destiny. Karma. Fate.
Most people believe one way or another that even with free will there is something greater out there deciding our path in life. So what does it mean when your daughter is having a baby in one city, and your son is having surgery for an aneurysm in another–at the same time?
How do you deal with that? How do you reconsile what has just happened?
A friend just had a baby this morning via scheduled C-section. Her baby was breach and the time had come to bring him into this world.
Late last night, her brother collapsed at the restaurant he works at in a fit of convulsions. He just graduated college last year. He had a brain aneurysm.
He is in Austin, she is in Dallas. Both underwent surgery at 7:00 and 7:30am respectively.
What is the plan behind this? What architect in the sky decided to build this skyscraper of emotions and turmoil? I cannot fathom what emotions must be going through their mother’s head. Certainly fear and empathy, but how hard must it be to feel the happiness of a first grandson under those circumstances?
A semblance of sanity was given back to the family this morning, however. The baby boy was delivered without complications and into the loving arms of his mother and father, and the aneurysm surgery went well, although he will remain in the hospital, first in ICU and then a regular room, for the next two weeks.
Please keep this family in your thoughts in the coming days. No one should have this checkmark on their list for Fate.

I Am Writing About Britney Spears…For SHAME!
August 16, 2006 · 3 Comments
I rarely write about Hollywood gossip on this site, and I don’t know that I have ever written about Mrs. Spears-Federline, but I saw this picture and I just couldn’t help myself.
There is point where your celebrity just cannot overcome your hideous taste. This picture is a couple months old, but what IS this outfit? I mean, SERIOUSLY??

Katrina Evacuees Tied to Murder Rate Increase
August 16, 2006 · 1 Comment
Interesting news about Katrina Evacuees. In Houston, one in five has been involved either as the suspect or victim of a murder. This has also pushed the murder rate in Houston, where 150,000 evacuees relocated, up by 20% in just one year.
I wonder if Dallas has seen a surge as well.
